Past Indefinite Tense

 

 

Tip-

Sentences with actions happened in the past are called Past Indefinite

Always use

The first form of verb with DID

  • Did he went? (wrong)
  • Did he go?  (correct)
  • Did Jack went (wrong)
  • Did Jack go? (correct)
  • Did Matthew slept? (wrong)
  • Did Matthew sleep? (correct)
Subject + Main Verb +Object

He   + Worked+ in a factory

For ex.

He worked in a factory

They went to school

She drank juice

The child ate food

The old took milk

 

We will use the same verb with

He/ she/ It/ I/ We / You / They

For ex.

  • He went
  • She studies
  • He slept
  • She drank

 

 

 

Negative sentences:-

They did Not sleep On mat
I did Not Take juice
She did not walk daily
They did not talk In school

 

We use did not with all subjects

With He, She and it, we use DID NOT

With I, we, you, they – DID not

 

 

Subject + Auxiliary Verb + Not + Main Verb + Object

 

I +did +not +eat + mango

  • They did not drink milk
  • She did not study
  • They +did + not +wash their clothes
  • He did not play with computer

 

 

 

Interrogative sentences

Interrogative Negative sentences

Auxiliary Verb + Subject +Not+ Main Verb + Object

Did+ she +not +play + guitar?

Did you not go out to play?

Did they go to office at 9o’ clock?

Did he like to eat banana?

Did she want to eat chocolates?

Did they want to do their homework?

Why Did you Eat Ice-creams in cold?

Creating questions with WHERE, WHAT, HOW, WHEN , WHY

For ex.

Where did he go to school?

Where+ Auxiliary verb+ subject+ verb+ object

Easy way to form the sentence  (Where did  he go to school?)

First create

He went to school (Past Indefinite)

Then

Did he go to school? (Interrogative )

Then add “Where” to Interogative sentence

Where did he go to school?

In the same way, all the sentences starting with

WHAT

WHERE

WHEN

WHY

HOW

will be formed in the Present Indefinite

 

Similarly,

Where did they eat dinner in office?

What did you do?

Where did he go to play in the evening?

How did you go to school?

Where did they go for walk in the morning?

When did you eat supper?

Where did the old man take rest in the afternoon?

Why did you play alone ?

Where did the children play at night?
